Do you know how forgetful I am? No? Neither do I. Thoughts flit to and fro, landing briefly before absquatulating (😉); my grip on them is tenuous at best. It is frustrating, and I spend a good deal of my day standing in one spot waiting to recall whatever notion was there before it slipped away. Like now, with this post. What was I going to write about? Buffering….buffering…buffering…
Well, while I’m waiting for that thought to return, I’ll tell you the outcome of driving the girls to so many practices, rehearsals, games, and a concert. Thanks to my dedication to getting the girls out of the house and spending gas money, their basketball team miraculously made it into the season-ending tournament and their orchestral concert was just as lovely this time around as last.
Rehearsals began in September and ran every Monday until their winter concert in early February. Due to many of the students graduating last year, the size of the orchestra reduced dramatically. So much so that Ellie is now the only violist. Thankfully, the one other violist who graduated last year decided to come back as an intern so Ellie didn’t have to play alone. Anna also moved up the ranks and is now only a few chairs away from being principal violinist. The orchestra won’t know what hit them when that happens! If you would like to hear one of the pieces they played (Overture from Die Zauberflöte by Mozart), click here at your own risk.
To be able to fully appreciate the extraordinary event that was the girls’ basketball team making it to the tournament, let me bog you down in some seasonal details. After what seemed like loss after loss in the first half of the season, I was surprised to learn that the team would still be granted a play-off game. However the road to get there would not be easy. The girls had to win against a team they never beat, then win by 13 (or more) points against another team they never beat, so they could hopefully have that play-off game at home. Winning that final game would allow them to compete in the tournament.
They won the first game by two points. They won the second game by 16 points, thus earning home court advantage for the playoff game, which they won by 12 points! Undoubtedly, their wins were due to the extreme exuberance with which the #momsquad cheered and coached from the bleachers.
All those late season wins slotted them as the fourth seed, pitting them against the 1st seed in the tourney. Unfortunately, they didn’t heed my advice to “get ‘em!” or “pull an offsides!”, so they lost that game. Therefore, they played in Saturday’s consolation match. Thanks to my encouragement to “catch the ball” and “sports harder!” the girls’ team won that contest 44-20, securing third place overall and a trophy in the postseason competition. Go, Falcons!
Watching them play and improve over the season was especially fun and I love that the girls found another common interest because it cuts down on how many people I have to drive places. Win, win.
Oh yeah! Speaking of love, I remember what I wanted to say! Today marks 23 years since Danny lost his mind and asked me to marry him. I know our marriage has been more fun for me than for him because I can’t recollect half of it😉
